Guild Challenges

Each year our Program Coordinator offers the Guild members fun challenges. Scroll down for descriptions and results of 2020-2022 challenges.

Scrap Buster Challenge

Scrap Buster Exchange - 2022

Jodi has issued another challenge to our members!

The challenge: use your scraps to make something that can be donated to our chosen charity (A Safe Place). Suggested items are placemats (sets of 4) and baby quilts, not limited to these items.

The goal: 40 items made by members by the December 2022 meeting. We exceeded the challenge! The new goal is 80 more items made by June 2023.

Needle Book Exchange

Needle Book Exchange - 2022

At our first Saturday Sew Day in January 2022 Sandra demonstrated how to make needle books.

Members who want to be part of the Needle book Exchange need to let Jodi know (send her an email) by January 28. Each participant will make one needle book to exchange with another member. Jodi will manage the exchange.

Download Sandra's instructions here.

Christmas Challenge

Christmas Challenge - 2021

Each participant received a piece of Christmas themed fabric. The challenge is to use the fabric in a Christmas themed project. The rules are wide open, the only requirement is that the fabric must be visible and recognizable on the front of the project.

The fabric is one 2 1/2" strip of Christmas themed fabric.

The results of this challenge were shown at the December 2021 Guild Meeting. The very creative results are in the gallery below.

    9 Patch Exchange

    9 Patch Exchange - 2021

Participants make twenty 9-patch blocks to exchange with other participants, using light and dark fabrics, and then use the blocks they receive in a project.

The results of this challenge will be shown at the January 2022 Guild Meeting. Once results are available, they will be shown in a gallery here.

      Valentine Mystery BOM

      Valentine Mystery BOM - 2021

The Valentine Mystery Block of the Month began in September 2021. Each month for four months all members receive the pattern and instructions for one part of the mystery project.

Any fabrics may be used, and of course, creativity is an option!

The final set of instructions and pattern will be distributed in December.

The finished projects will be shown at the February Guild Meeting.

        Keyhole Block Exchange

        Keyhole Block Exchange - 2020-2021

Each participant made keyhole blocks using batik fabrics, following the instructions from this Missouri Star Quilt Company video.  Each participant made 4 blocks to exchange with each participant, for a total of 36 blocks. Each participant also was to include at least 4 squares of fabric that was used in their blocks, to be used in borders.

Covid caused a little hiccup in our timelines, so this challenge was extended into 2021.

The finished quilts were displayed at the November 2021 Guild Meeting. Members voted on their favourites and the winning project was to be featured on the cover of our Facebook page. Since we had a tie, the decision was made to display one of the winners on the Facebook page and both winning quilts are displayed on our Home page.

Check out the gallery below to see the results.
